12 MORE RULES FOR MARKETING:

Updated: Feb 12

12 rules for marketing

Months have passed since I wrote The 12 Rules for Marketing, and I can proudly say that it's the most liked article and one of the most read.

A lot of things have made me think, and directed me towards other perspectives on marketing. So I've judged that it's necessary to add some rules to the list.

Knowing this rules, will not make you a top marketer, you can not be a super hero after 5 min of effort! But it can give you insights and orientation, or key points that you can explore even further.

Some of the points I've touched on are already detailed in my articles. I invite you to have a look at them, if you're like me: a curious nerd.

The 12 more rules for Marketing:

Rule 1: The number one seller is and still Word of month. Get people talking about you, your product or your service.

Rule 2: Marketing shouldn’t feel or look like marketing. You know what I’m talking about, this sponsor label that make us automatically lose interest on the post. Be more creative, don't push too hard, teach people and give them time to understand what you're doing, instead of being too pushy.

Rule 3: Our unconscious work more than our conscious mind. Work on triggers, get people to remember you in everyday events or experiences. If you make people think of you and remember you in certain situations, you win.

Rule 4: Social currency: by making people feel greedy when they talk about you. Give them the feeling of belonging to something big.

Rule 5: Marketing is an art of seduction, and your role is to seduce your audience. It's a game of entering into people spirit and mind, and ultimately leading them to take action, whether it's making a purchase, signing up for a service, or engaging with a brand.

Rules 6: Marketing start before your product: effective marketing isn't just about promoting a finished product; it's about creating a connection with your audience, building anticipation, and offering solutions to their needs—even before your product officially exists. So, start your marketing journey early, and watch as it paves the way for the success of your product launch!

Rules 7: Branding is not marketing. It's important to know the difference so you know what you're really doing! Marketing is the story you craft behind your product. Branding is how you want people to remember you and how they talk about you.

Rules 8: A marketing plan is not a marketing strategy. A plan is like a to-do list, it's a list of tasks you need to accomplish along your marketing journey. A strategy is a roadmap, it's how you're going to reach your end goal, all the details of your marketing operations and the results you need to achieve.

Rule 9: Getting feedback is really important, so surround yourself with people who can give you real constructive feedback.

But allow yourself some crazy moves. Remember, everything seems crazy or ridiculous until it works.

Rule 10: You can't be 100% sure of the success of your marketing strategy. But the more you learn, study and analyze data, the greater your chances of success. So stay a student, even if you think you have all the knowledge and experience you need.

Rule 11: People tend to imitate the actions and words of others. So the more people they see using or reacting to the product, the more likely they are to do the same.

So Make sure your product is visible to everyone!

Rules 12: People will perceive you or your company in some way, no matter what you do. And even if you don't do anything, they're going to form an impression of you. So it's important to control that impression.

Marketing isn't an option, it's essential.
